Forum > Metabolism

Hello All and Stephen,

I have been following the program as per the 811 diet book. I definitely have seen the positive results. But now, I face a specific issue.

I started strength training. I am a skinny guy, trying to put on weight in a healthy way using proper diet and excerise as the fuel.

But i notice that my metabolism has increased substantially. my BMR has increased. I feel constantly hungry. Yesterday i ate 40 bananas, and yet i lost 1 pound !

So should i curtail my weight training? how can i slow down my metabolism ?

Prakash, Congratulations on 40 bananas!

My first question: Are you new at eating an all raw diet for a sustained period of time?

If the answer is yes, then your body is probably going through detox as this new way of eating is allowing your body to use its energy to cleanse itself at the cellular level. Usually, there are so many toxins in a predominately cooked food diet that the body cannot get rid of all of them and maintain normal daily functioning.

Now it seems that you are on a raw diet and the body does not have to constantly respond to new cooked food toxins. It can now use its energy to clear out the old junk. This can result in initial weight loss as inferior and toxic ladden tissue is cleared out of the body.

Everyone I know who has adopted a raw diet first lost weight for a period of time and then their weight returned to a healthy normal, and if they trained with weights they began to see results.

If you feel well, then trust your body's innate wisdom. It knows what to do. When I first went all raw I also lost weight and had no desire to work out. After about 4 months I began to gain weight and my desire to work out and engage in strenuous exercise returned.

Good luck!
