Finding Community...

Breakfast- 2 red grapefruit, 1 white grapefruit, 2 Honey tangerines

Last night I attended the weekly meeting of The Raw Health and Happiness Society (see raw food events calendar).  The discussion topic was "What works for you?  What do you do that keeps you on the raw path?"  It was a terrific meeting.  There were people there from all around, Manhattan, Long Island, Westchester, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Bermuda.  Every one there was in agreement that a raw foods based life is best for health and wellness.  We all tend to agree that we believe fruit and greens are very important and we prefer to heal our bodies rather that suppress symptoms of illness.

Beyond this we talked about the various things we do, the helpful habits that we have acquired in order to stick with raw foods.  Here are some of the things that people said works to help them stay raw:

  • I eat large fruit meals.
  • I eat three large raw meals a day and no snacks. 
  • I know that I don't want to go back to feeling depressed.
  • I love how I feel!
  • Books, when I fill my head with this stuff then I really want it.
  • I don't eat cold food.
  • Pre-washed greens.
  • Natalia Rose's Green Lemonade.
  • Eating fruit in the morning, that really works for me.
  • What I love about raw is that I'm my own Doctor; I don't have to do what everyone else is doing.
  • I don't eat early in the morning; I eat after I've done some work.
  • I ate a lot of citrus this season.
  • If I have fruit, I cut it up and put it in a pretty dish.
  • Ditto.
  • Keeping fruit and vegetables cut, washed, and ready to eat.
  • Eating raw soups.
  • Coming to support group meetings and hearing others speak.
  • I eat room temperature fruits and vegetables.
  • I make Blueberry Jello!  Here's the recipe:
    • Approximately. 1 cup blueberries
    • Bananas to taste, 2 or 3
    • 1/2 lemon, diced
    • Blend all thoroughly, pour into bowls and refrigerate, it begins to jell immediately!
