Roger Haeske recently turned me on to Steve Prussack's Raw Vegan Radio and I've been logging on the past day or so.  Steve's got some heavy duty interviews there.  Gabriel Cousens is interviewed and he talks about his spiritual path leading him to the raw vegan diet.  Regarding vegetarianism, Gabriel quotes one of his teachers: "When you kill an animal you take it's pain and misery into your life and then that pain and misery- and fear become a part of your life and eats you too."

Roni Rabin of the NY Times reports that public health officials are making strong statements that mothers who do not breastfeed are putting their children's health at risk.  Dr. E. Stephen Buescher, a professor of pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, says "I think of human milk not just as food, but as a sophisticated and intricate infant support system that has evolved over millions of years to provide the infant with nutrition, protection and components of information...."  Human breast milk is the original raw food for human babies!  Hello!  The article has some powerful information, including how breastfeeding contributes to adults having a healthier and more varied diet.

There are so many benefits for the baby and mother. During pregnancy I read as much inforamtion I could get my hands on. I bought numerous books on the subject. One of my favorites was a clinical book called, "Breastfeeding and Human Lactation by Jan Riordan, RN and Kathleen G.Auerbach, PhD. The book is over 1,000 pages and had numerous clinical studies. It's used as an instruction manual for those becoming lactation consultants. It was choked full of studies. It came in handy when my daughters pediatrician, at the time, told me I needed to supplement with vitamins. I printed out articles and showed her studies from that book.
