Larabars? What about fruit? Watermelon lovers listen up...
Breakfast- 1/4 watermelon, 1 pint blueberries
Raw food is showing up in the most unexpected places. At the annual Pedrosfest Mountain Bike Festival, it was in the form of Larabars, described as "nothing more than some squashed banana, nuts and dates." I'm glad that raw Larabars are having an impact, but what about whole fruits and nuts. From ancient times these have been the optimum food for athletes and nothing's changed. It seems that people don't view fruit and nuts as real food. There seems to be this idea that we need something "special" for optimal performance, something from a package or a food processor. What we need is fruit, vegetables, seeds, and nuts. Keep the Larabar for a treat and enjoy it.
I read some more great news for watermelon fans. "Watermelon is loaded with antioxidants to fortify the body, especially carotenoids that can offset cell damage caused by chemicals and sun."
