I attempted to eat watermelon for breakfast but I had a disappointment. When I cut the moderately sized melon open and tasted it I found that it was not ripe. In fact, it seemed to have been picked way too early and just been left sitting around. If we were growing our own food we'd have more control over things like this and one unripe melon might not be so disappointing. If by mistake we picked an unripe melon, at least we could go pick another one. This one lone watermelon, carried on the subway from Union Square Farmer's Market and now sitting in my apartment in the middle of Manhattan is quite different from having a patch of melons outside my back door. When I have that patch of melons you're all invited over!
By the way, at the end of my August 3 entry, "Why not fruit..." Keda and I had a few brief and interesting exchanges. Check it out if you have time.
