I heard some news piece on the radio this morning that started me thinking about all of the money that is spent on people who don't take care of themselves. It doesn't seem fair that people who live reckless lives with regard to their health receive tremendous financial benefits in the form of early retirement, disability retirement and countless dollars to pay for medical treatments that (besides being pointless in the first place) will have no real effect because the person's lifestyle will negate any possibility of real and long term healing.

I would rather the money go to people who can't afford to buy organic fruit and vegetables, or who can't afford to avail themselves of books, classes, fitness training, gym memberships and education on how to achieve and maintain true vibrant health.

With regard to Dr. Douglas Graham'scalendar quote, did you shake your body today? I shook mine last night with a run when I got home from work.

I've been feeling a little blue and I think it's part of an emotional detox that goes along with being raw. For me cooked food has served as a cushion between me and feelings that are uncomfortable. I think that a raw food life allows us to have all of those repressed feelings, to deal with them and let them go. I'm counting on this being the case. It's not very comfortable when it happens and I think that is what has led me back to past episodes of cooked food eating.

Also, I've been eating a very simple uncomplicated raw diet recently, no energy taxing sedating dehydrated and high fat raw foods, so I haven't have much of a cushion between me and life. The mentally clarity is good but I'll be glad when this blueness passes!

Raw Date 2010, 5/23, Sunday...

Pre-Breakfast- 1 1/2 pints blueberries

Dinner- 24 oz Fruit smoothie (home made with strawberries, banana, pineapple, orange)

Like Dr. Graham's calendar quote suggests, I'm laughing at myself this morning. Why did I put Blueberries in the smoothie when I know from experience that blueberries in smoothies are a disaster? There is a lot of beautiful fresh fruit in my apartment and I guess I just got carried away. The flavor was okay, but don't do what I did this morning. Blueberries are high in pectin, and that is not a bad thing, but they turn a smoothie into a gelatinous semi solid mass that has to be eaten with a spoon. Its not pretty.

Its a natural law that red mixed with green results in brown. The red strawberries, mixed with the green lettuce and the blue berries resulted in a brownish green gray color -not very appetizing. It became very filling very quickly and I had to force myself to eat all of it, something I try not to do. I only forced myself because I didn't eat very much yesterday and since today is Saturday, I don't want to try to have a active day not being fully fueled. I also don't want to slip into a habit of under eating.

Raw Date 2010, 5/21, Friday...

Breakfast- 64 oz smoothie (6 large Naval oranges, 1 small head Romaine lettuce, large handful baby spinach leaves)

The afternoon smoothie was not as tasty as it sounds. These fresh fruit/smoothie/juice carts are good in a pinch but they're not a replacement for carefully chosen ripe fresh fruit. The fruit used in the carts is frequently not ripe and not sweet. This is my reason for frequently sticking with fresh orange juice.

Raw Date 2010, 5/20, Thursday...

Breakfast- 64 oz smoothie (small head Romaine, two big handfuls of baby spinach leaves, 6 large ripe bananas, 2 cups cold water)
